Key Term Definitions
Hybrid Phone: A phone that is hybrid is a mix between key systems and PBX systems. Over the years the differences between these 2 types have dwindled and so the benefits of both have been combined – the term hybrid signifies the grouping.
Digital Phone: Digital phones break up audio signal into a binary code ( series of 1s and 0s) and transfer the code to another device, which then takes the code and reassembles the signal. Analog takes the human voice and translates it into electronics pulses. Since digital breaks up the signal is it able to correct errors that may have occurred during transmission, delivering clearer conversation.
CTI (computer telephony integration): This is an optional set of applications that will allow you to integrate your telephone system with your computer. These applications include one-click dialing, video conferencing, incoming call routing and more.
Extra Device Port (xDP): The xDP is a connection path for a second single-line analog device. This device can share an extension number (cordless phone) with the system phone or work independently (modem, fax, etc.)
Digital Extra Device Port (DXDP): The DxDP is a connection path for a full-featured, multi-line digital device. With this port you can add a second digital phone to your system with any additional modules or wiring.
Power Over Ethernet (PoE): PoE technology allows power to be delivered to a remote device using the same cable lines used to deliver Ethernet data. The Ethernet cable serves a power cord. PoE allows you to install network devices in places where electrical outlets may be scarce.
Ethernet Switch: Network switch that transmits data at Ethernet standard rates. The switches must carry either 10/100 Megabits per second or 10/100/100 Megabit ports in order to be classified as Ethernet.
